ABB has won orders worth a total of US$40m from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) to supply crane automation and electrical systems for three projects.
Automation, electrical systems and related services will be supplied for 38 unmanned automatic stacking container cranes and eight ship-to-shore gantry cranes at Busan New Port in South Korea.
ABB said it will deliver full crane automation and support systems to maximise overall efficiency of the port’s automated terminals, as well as related project management, engineering, customer training and commissioning services. The cranes will be operable in mid-2011.
Another project will see ABB supply automation and electrical systems for two container STS cranes and four electric RTGs for Santa Marta International Terminal Company in Colombia, due to commence operations at the beginning of 2011.
The third project comprises automation and electrical systems for three 2,500 tonne-per-hour bulk grab ship unloader cranes for China’s Tangshan Port Group. Scheduled to be operational by the end of 2010, the cranes will be used to unload ore from ships and barges at Shougang Jingtang Port.
“These projects confirm the need for safe, fast and cost-effective goods handling in major shipping ports,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s process automation division. “ABB’s innovative solutions for control and optimisation deliver automation that increases speed and productivity, while improving worker safety.”
