APM Terminals and CMA CGM have signed agreements which will see each of them take greater control of two different joint venture terminals.

CMA CGM’s container terminal subsidiary, Terminal Link, has increased its shares in Nord France Terminal International (NFTI), Dunkirk, France, from 30% to 91% through the acquisition of APM Terminals 61% share. The other 9% remains owned by the Port Authority of Dunkirk.

Meanwhile, in the US port of Mobile, Alabama (pictured), APM Terminals has increased its shares in Mobile Container Terminal (MCT) from 80% to 100% through the acquisition of Terminal Link’s 20% share.

CMA CGM is today the main customer of NFTI operating four regular services to Dunkirk. The deepwater facility operates modern super post-panamax gantry cranes, providing direct road, rail and barge access to Northern France, the Paris region and Central Europe.

MCT, meanwhile, opened in November 2008 with capacity to handle 350,000teu per year. Located at the intersection of five Class 1 railroads, with immediate access to Interstates 10 and 65, MCT is well positioned to reach US Midwest markets, as well as Alabama and neighbouring states.
