A new container system has been launched for shipping dangerous and/or temperature sensitive materials in compliance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. The Redundant Container Refrigeration Unit, model PFR-582Ex, has been introduced by Klinge Corporation to comply with IMDG Classes 4.1 and 5.2.
The system has been designed to provide complete protection for hazardous materials while providing a large cargo area within a 20ft insulated container. The refrigeration system is just 365mm deep, making maximum use of space available for cargo.
The Pennsylvania-based manufacturer said the PFR-582Ex provides a rugged and reliable system keeping cargo at a steady temperature while unit motors and components in contact with the cargo area are of explosion-proof and anti spark design.
The new system is expected to be used by chemical companies that need accurate temperature control. It is suitable for controlling the temperature of organic peroxides with a Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of less than 50 degrees centigrade.
The PFR-582 system comes with two independent and redundant refrigeration systems. Its secondary system provides full back-up in the event of any technical difficulties in the primary system, maintaining the pre-set temperature.
Fast acting microprocessor technology maintains a constant temperature for safe, long term transportation, with cooling systems that exceed IMDG requirements.
